About Us

HISTORY

Hanafiah Ponggawa & Partners is one of Indonesia’s premier law firms engaged in a transnational practice. With roots in one of Indonesia’s first post-independence law firms, the Law Offices of Mr. L. Hanafiah, established in 1953, HP&P was reconstituted in 1990 as Hanafiah Soeharto Ponggawa and reorganized at various times in the 1990s to reflect Indonesia’s changing situation before taking its present structure in 2004.  The reorganization is also a reflection of HP&P’s clients’ need for specialized legal services in various areas of law. HP&P takes pride in the long-standing relationships which it builds and maintains with its clients. HP&P’s clients include multinational companies, large and small domestic companies, financial institutions, government agencies, local government, and individuals. We are proud of being an independent Indonesian law firm with high recognition from, and extensive connections in, the international community. Our history and  current existence are evidence of our efforts in providing first class services to each and every client of HP&P.

PRINCIPLES

Realisation of HP&P client’s objectives is the foremost consideration.  HP&P’s lawyers, specialised paralegals, and related support staff are all experienced and dedicated to the full achievement of our client objectives by assisting clients in finding their main goals, providing active advisory assistance, strategy advisement, and creative support with quick responses around the clock.

With recognition of entrepreneurial spirit, and high standards of service and ethics, we have been very successful in providing timely and cost-sensitive representation of our clients.  We also believe that complicated legal issues may not always demand complicated solutions, but they certainly demand creativity and the cooperation of lawyers mastering different areas of the law.  Based on the above principles, while keeping ourself a general practice firm, we have formed several practice groups which cover most areas of law.  Members of each practice group are well trained and outstanding lawyers in their area of law with innovative and creative solutions for legal issues faced by our clients.

As clients of HP&P, you are entitled to and have direct access to all expertise and legal representation in any of our practice groups. Currently, our practice groups cover the following areas :

- Banking & Financial Services
- Capital Markets
- Corporate & Commercial Law
- Commercial Litigation and Arbitration
- Information Technology
- Intellectual Property
- Labour & Employment
- Natural Resources
- Power, Telecommunications and Infrastructure
- Real Property
- Transportation

THE FUTURE

In anticipating rapid development and change in business conduct and legal systems in the world, including Indonesia, we are committed to HP&P’s longstanding principles and objectives in providing first class legal services and timely and cost-sensitive representation to our clients, by maintaining the excellence and continual professional growth of our lawyers.

We allocate significant time and resources to supporting and developing our lawyers in their professional careers. In addition to continuous mentoring from each partner, and internal and external training programs in all practice groups, we provide all lawyers with state of the art technology and devices, enabling them to provide high standard legal services, and maximum efficiency and effectivity.

Following our historical path, objectives and principles, HP&P’s goals for the future are to measure success not by volume of transactions or number of lawyers but by quality of legal services and solid cooperation between our lawyers and clients.

In addition to our general advisory services, we are proud to add that we have a close relationship with, and specifically have represented, several Government Agencies, Provincial Governments and State Owned Companies.
